Lagos, Jan. 14 (AEP News) Lagos State Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) seized 344 commercial motorcycles (Okada) in different parts of the state within one week.
The Public Relations Officer of the Task Force, Mr Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, disclosed the seizure in a statement on Sunday.
Abdulraheem said the task force raided Abule-Ado area and impounded 174 motorcycles.
It also raided Lagos Island confiscating 50 motorcycles, Berger/Grammar School with 50 motorcycles and Abule-Egba axis with 70.
He said the unit had warned security men in uniform against contravening traffic law in the state.
The unit, he said, will prosecute anyone who contravenes the extant rules and regulations, especially uniformed security operatives.
“Taskforce will bring the operations of recalcitrant motorcyclists in the state to a complete halt.
“This is as it carries out the week-long raid across various parts of the Metropolis,” he warned.
According to the spokesman, the Agency’s chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has vowed to cripple the activities of commercial motorcyclists plying restricted highways.
“We have decided to end okada operations and we are putting all measures in place to achieve this goal.
“There is a ban on activities of Okada riders along selected routes and Local Governments in Lagos. Therefore, we will not allow them to operate as they please.
“There will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of okada operations in the state.
“Therefore, any man in uniform caught conveying passengers on a bike for commercial purposes will be thoroughly dealt with,” Jejeloye said. (AEP News)
